We answer your questions

What are the benefits of a dental implant?

When we lose teeth, the remaining ones have to absorb the strain of all of our chewing. This overburdens them and shortens their lifespan. Implants reduce this overload, slowing bone loss and improving dental function and appearance.

Are implants screws inserted into the gum?

No. Dental implants are artificial roots made of clinically-pure titanium (a biocompatible material). They are placed in the lower or upper jaw in order to provide a base for the restoration of individual teeth or for partial or complete prostheses. They are made up of a crown, an abutment and the implant itself. The crown is the visible part, which is custom-made for each person. The abutment is the internal part, on which the crown is placed. The implant is the titanium root which is attached to the bone and supports the artificial tooth.

How safe are implants?

Dental implantology is a very safe technique. BTI implants are the result of advances in biotechnology, the fruit of 15 years of research. They are made of the highest quality materials and undergo exhaustive testing. They can provide a solution for each individual case, in terms of both length and width.

If I get an implant, will it be noticeable?

No. The dental prostheses attached to implants (crowns) have the same shape, colour and size as your own teeth. They do not look like artificial teeth.

I don’t have very much bone. Can I get implants?

Yes, with an autograft, also called an autologous graft. This involves taking a small piece of bone or tissue from another part of the body and transplanting it to the necessary location. This minimally invasive technique does not cause rejection problems. Autografts make it possible to reconstruct the area where the implant and artificial tooth will later be anchored, with guaranteed results. By using growth factors, the entire process can be shortened.

I have decided to get implants but I don’t want to go tooth by tooth. Is there a way to place all of them at the same time?

Yes. People with no teeth or whose teeth are in poor condition can solve their problem in just one day.  Placing the teeth in a single day makes it possible to reconstruct the entire jaw with dental implants and a bridge or permanent dentures. The main advantage is that the patient does not have to wear temporary removable dentures, with the functional and cosmetic problems this entails. This is a permanent solution, with excellent cosmetic results. It also provides dental function similar to that of natural teeth.

My implants are in poor condition. What can I do?

It is now possible to remove and replace them very easily.

Why do I need to have blood drawn to get an implant? What are growth factors (PRGF)?

From the blood sample, we obtain a group of proteins (growth factors or PRGF) which are capable of repairing the body’s tissues naturally. These growth factors are proteins found in our platelets and blood plasma. When used in bone regeneration treatments and on the soft tissue of the jaw, PRGF speed up the healing process, as well as reducing inflammation and the risk of infection. They also improve gum regeneration and the bone integration of implants (how they attach).

I have small wrinkles around my mouth, what they call ‘the bar code’. Can they be removed using growth factors?

Not with PRGF microinjections, but there are other treatments. However, PRGF produce amazing results in skin treatment. As they speed up tissue regeneration, when used in facial cosmetic procedures, they produce appreciable rejuvenation in the area where they are applied. Because PRGF are proteins found in our own platelets and blood plasma, their use does not produce undesirable results, as occurs with other rejuvenating treatments.

How can I avoid any discomfort during a treatment?

With waking sedation. With this service, the patient never loses the ability to react to physical stimuli or verbal instructions given by the specialist, but experiences no stress. In addition, they are monitored throughout the process, enabling the anaesthesiologist to adjust the dose based on how long the dental procedure is expected to take. The patient’s blood pressure and vital signs are also checked in the most effective manner.

Is sedation available for teeth cleanings?

Yes, but it should not be necessary.

My teeth are very crowded. Should I have my wisdom teeth taken out to make room?

This should be determined by a specialist. However, the reason your third molars (wisdom teeth) do not emerge completely is usually a lack of space. This can make it feel like your teeth are crowded.

My front teeth are really damaged. Can I get veneers?

Yes. Veneers are the most suitable cosmetic option for improving aspects of the tooth such as shape, colour and position. They are very thin sheets. This is the best treatment for dental resurfacing: it corrects the wear and tear on our smile caused by time and certain problems. Veneers are made out of porcelain, a material that is as strong and durable as natural enamel. There are also composite and compound resin veneers, an alternative known as bonding. Each veneer is made by hand to give it the appropriate form and characteristics for each patient.

Is a cap the same as a veneer? Can veneers fall off?

When a large part of the dental structure has been lost or the damaged tooth cannot really support additional fillings and runs the risk of cracking, it is advisable to cover the tooth with a full crown. This aesthetic treatment totally replaces the visible portion of the diseased tooth. Once the tooth has been drilled, it is covered with a porcelain crown identical to the original tooth, protecting and preserving it.

Veneers are the most suitable cosmetic option for improving aspects of the tooth such as shape, colour and position. Today’s adhesive systems guarantee the durability of veneers. They are made of durable materials, like natural enamel. They are hand-made, imitating the form and characteristics of our teeth perfectly.

Why do I get cavities?

This disease sometimes reflects a genetic pattern. As a result, even if they eat the same foods as others, certain people have a greater tendency to develop tooth decay. Excellent oral hygiene is a good method of prevention and control. In order to keep your teeth in perfect condition, it is essential to have periodic check-ups and, if necessary, immediately deal with any problem which may emerge (tooth decay, tartar, stains or altered chewing patterns, for example).

I have a lot of molars with silver fillings and I get embarrassed when people see them. What can I do to improve their appearance?

You can get inlays. Inlays are used to restore small or medium-sized cavities in the rear teeth, or to repair cracked or fractured teeth, provided that the damage is not so great that it requires a crown or full cap. Inlays can be porcelain or composite resin. Because they imitate the colour of the natural tooth, they are an ideal solution for replacing silver amalgam fillings. They also help eliminate tooth sensitivity and are virtually invisible.

Why is it important to control dental plaque?

The best prevention against gum disease is frequent brushing and using dental floss on a daily basis. This is the best way to remove the dental plaque that is constantly being deposited on the teeth. Daily cleaning will keep tartar formation to a minimum, although it cannot be prevented entirely. Maintaining a high level of oral hygiene requires periodic professional cleaning. Only a specialist can remove the dental plaque and stains from teeth. In general, it is advisable to have your teeth cleaned every six months, but this depends on each individual case.

What can I do to make my teeth white again?

You can get a tooth whitening treatment. This changes the colour of one or more teeth using whitening agents: oxygen releasing gels that lighten the pigmentation of the teeth without having a significant effect on the tissue, in other words, the outer enamel and inner dentine. There are various whitening techniques. The most common one uses light to activate the whitening agents, while others utilize mouthguards (flexible plastic devices). However, all of them are effective and work well. How much the teeth are whitened depends on each individual case and the initial colour of the tooth.

I grit my teeth. Is there a solution?

It is not always possible to prevent teeth gritting. However, we can do something about the effects.

I snore. Can the dentist help me?

Of course. We need to determine the cause and many of your problems will be improved.
